2025 Fall Winter Makeup Inspiration Spike Lashes

It’s been a huge year for lashes and there has been a move away from minimalism and “clean girl aesthetics” with recent trends. Lash looks from spiky to anime-inspired to extreme feather lashes have hit the fashion runways- driven by trends on social media platforms like TikTok and by Korean beauty and executed by talented runway makeup artists. Colored mascara has made a major comeback as well. But this is not the first time we have seen this.

In 2019, Priyanka Chopra brought all the ice queen vibes with spiky white glittery top lashes and a white lower lash line when she attended the Met Gala.

In 2019, whimsical lash shades of green, blue, purple, and yellow were common as well as the wet spiky lash look.

At the Brandon Maxwell 2019 Fall Show for actress Jung Ho-Yeon, the designer used a combination of false lashes and plenty of mascara, the effect he created was slightly fuzzy and messy, with fluttery lashes of various lengths curled and clustered together, almost as if the strands were wet. He also exaggerated the bottom lashes by drawing downward strokes of eyeliner on the lower lid, further exaggerating the doe-eyed effect.

2019 didn’t invent wet, spike lash trends though. Those honors go to the iconic 70’s and divas like Cher, Liza Minnelli and Diana Ross. In the 70’s, lash trends were extreme, false layered lashes, a far cry from the natural lashes from the 1960’s.

Fast forward to 2025, and wet, spike lash looks are now back in style more than ever. With the addition of 2019’s and 1960’s color mascara. For fall and winter, jewel tone colors such as blues, greens and purples are trending, as well as shades of brown for an ombre effect. This changed from 2025 spring/summers pink, yellow and red and lavender hues.

For Dries Van Noten’s Spring/Summer 2025 show, makeup artist Lucy Bridge took over from the iconic Inge Grognard, who has long been synonymous with the brand’s beauty looks. Bridge brought a fresh energy to the runway, delivering a striking and vibrant look that added an extra layer of excitement. With bright pink and yellow hues framing the eyes, the bold contrast played perfectly against the otherwise minimal complexion, creating an electrifying pop of color.

Actress Florence Pugh opened for Harris Reed’s Fall 2025 show, but instead of walking the runway she walked around the audience while performing a powerful monologue against a soundtrack of live cellists. Her makeup look showcased heavy eyeliner and theatrical spike lashes. Fashion, theatre and art blended together for this designer.

Creating this look, or a “ready to wear”, “street wear” style is not as hard as it looks. There are many ways to do this. You don’t have to have over-the-top lashes, with strip lashes or cluster lashes, you can get a similar effect in a much subtler way.

You can even achieve this effect with just mascara and your natural lashes, using the tip of the wand to clump lashes together into thick spikes (the trick is not to deposit too much pigment—you want spikes, not spidery clumps).

Ardell Natural #110 Strip Lashes

This style of strip lash has the Invisiband® Fit, a clear band to help blend in the the natural lash line. Because the longer lashes are in the middle, this lash style would be best for those wanting to “open” the eye, such as hooded, close-set, and wide-set eyes, as well as monolid eyes.

Ardell Wispies #113 Strip Lashes

This style of strip lash has the Invisiband® Fit, a clear band to help blend in the the natural lash line. Because the longer lashes are in the middle just like the #110, this lash style would be best for those wanting to “open” the eye, such as hooded, close-set, and wide-set eyes, as well as monolid eyes.

Ardell Natural #124 Strip Lashes

This style of strip lash has the Invisiband® Fit, a clear band to help blend in the the natural lash line. Because the longer lashes are in the middle just like the #110 and #113, this lash style would be best for those wanting to “open” the eye, such as hooded, close-set, and wide-set eyes, as well as monolid eyes.

Once you apply the lash strip, use a small amount of liquid liner, dark brown or dark black powder to blend into the lash line. Apply mascara to blend your natural lashes in with the false. Don’t want to commit to a lash strip? You can do the same look with blending in Ardell Faux Mink Individuals.

Ardell has excellent faux mink individual lash clusters; you can purchase your desired length in choice of products Ardell Faux Mink Individual Black Medium or Ardell Faux Mink Individual Black Long.

To get this look simply use Duo Dark Tone Individual Lash Glue and dispense a small amount on a clean disposable surface. Very lightly take your lash cluster in tweezers and dip the lash cluster band into the glue. There should only be a very small amount of glue on the lash cluster band. Wait 15-20 seconds to let the glue set and become tacky, and then take the lash cluster and carefully blend into your lash line.

Our lash artists can work with your natural eye shape and help you design a lash set that “opens” the eyes for a more brighter, youthful look. When getting lash extensions it’s important to know that it is a commitment. After the original full set of lashes are applied, you must come back to the spa every two to three weeks for a fill in, up to three times. For the next appointment, the lashes must be completely taken off for one to two weeks to allow breaks from extensions to prevent potential damage from the constant weight and strain. Especially if the lash artist notices that the natural lashes are thinning or becoming sparse. You can use a lash serum during this period to nourish your lashes and encourage healthy new growth.  After a short break, the lash artist will apply a new fresh full set. Lash extensions also need to be cleaned with a special wash regularly and brushed out to avoid tangles.

If lash extensions are not for you do to commitment and time, try a lash tint and lift service. Lash Tint / Lifts work with your natural lashes, this semi-permanent treatment curls and lifts your natural lashes from the root. The tint darkens the natural lash to help with the overall effect. The result helps them appear longer and fuller without the need of a lash curler or extensions. Depending on your lash growth cycle, this service lasts for four to eight weeks. This service is time saving and more affordable than that with lash extensions.
